Director, Montfort & Allie B. Jones Memorial Library

General Description:

Serve as the chief executive officer of the library, implement library policies and projects, maintain the library website, submit an annual report to the state library, and provide leadership for improving public library service to the community.

An ideal candidate will demonstrate commitment to the mission and philosophy of public library service, as well as the ability to work effectively with elected officials, community groups, and library trustees and staff, through either academic or prior work experience. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

Principal activities include, but will not be limited to:

  • Work with the library board of trustees:
    • Bring library issues to the board’s attention and present them with options for dealing with those issues;
  • Public services:
    • Develop & oversee a variety of services designed to meet the needs of a diverse public;
  • Collection development and technical services:
    • Maintain an updated collection development policy; oversee the acquisition, processing, cataloging, inventory, and weeding of all library materials;
  • Supervise staff and implement personnel policies:
    • Hire and supervise all library employees, including training, evaluation, discipline, and enforcement of policies established by the board of trustees and the City of Bristow;
  • Manage the library’s budget & funds:
    • Maintain accurate financial records, work with the city to develop a budget each fiscal year, and manage the library’s finances to ensure expenditures stay within the budget;
  • Develop policies & procedures for the library:
    • Develop policies for consideration by the library board and procedures for administering these policies;
  • Future planning:
    • Develop and maintain a long-range plan and technology plan;
  • Promote the library:
    • Coordinate efforts between yourself, the staff, and the board to promote the library’s resources throughout the community;
  • Manage the library facility;
    • Oversee the care and maintenance of the library facility and grounds, super and supervise custodial staff.
